February 2024 - Valentine's Day is just around the corner: the feast day for lovers dates back to 496 AD, when Pope Gelasius I - determined to put an end to the Lupercalia, pagan rites dedicated to the fertility god Lupercus, where love was celebrated in an unrestrained manner that was completely removed from the Christian vision - brought forward the day of celebration to Feb. 14, St. Valentine's Day, making the latter a de facto protector of lovers.
It takes a leap far ahead in time to get to the present day, to when Valentine's Day becomes for all intents and purposes the day of lovers and an opportunity to exchange an affectionate thought, a pampering or extra attention.
